DuPage County Sheriff

John E. Zaruba

Canine Unit (K-9)

The Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit was formed in 1984 and continues to be the most active and diversified in the area.

Besides hunting for lost or missing persons and criminal suspects, detecting illegal drugs and explosives, recovering evidence and apprehending suspects in unincorporated DuPage County, the unit continues to be used extensively by other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The unit is staffed by four handlers and their canine partners who are trained in various disciplines including man trailing, patrol, narcotics, building and article search, handler protection and explosives detection.
