If you are interested in law enforcement as a future career, DuPage County Explorer Post #644 may be for you. Explorer Post #644, sponsored by the Sheriff's Office, is designed to educate citizens, both inside and outside of the classroom, about the many facets of law enforcement. Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities.

Who is eligible to be an Explorer?

Anyone between the ages of 14 and 20 can apply to be an Explorer.

What do I do during the program?

The Sheriff's Office runs a training academy just for Explorers. During the academy you will learn about:

  • DUI investigations
  • Use of Force
  • Traffic stops
  • Crime scene investigation
  • Bomb recognition
  • Hostage negotiation
  • Report writing
  • Courtroom testimony
  • Basic first aid
  • Juvenile law
  • Drill instruction
  • Ride-alongs with sworn personnel

You will also have an opportunity to participate in many different activities including parades, various community programs, Safety Saturday and the DuPage County Fair. You may even have the opportunity to escort the Easter Bunny to visit hospitalized children on Easter Sunday.
