The patrol division is considered the "backbone" of the Law Enforcement Bureau providing 24-hour police service to the approximately 104,000 unincorporated residents of DuPage County.
For patrol operations, the nine townships in the County are divided into 36 sectors. These sectors are combined to form patrol areas, or "beats," based on analysis of the severity and frequency of calls for service.
To provide for continuous patrol coverage and efficiently manage manpower, three different patrol shifts, arranged to overlap during peak activity times, cover each day.
In 2012 deputies handled 53,836 calls for service including traffic enforcement activities.
