Sheriff Asks for Parents Assistance in Back to School Campaign
Sheriff John E. Zaruba’s has its annual “Back to School Safety Campaign” in full force with deputies conducting enforcement in school zones throughout DuPage County and now he is asking parents to assist in his campaign.
“Every day throughout DuPage County thousands children of all ages walk to school or to a bus stop, alone or in pairs, but are they walking the safest and most direct route is the question,” Sheriff Zaruba said. “I am asking parents to remind their children to be aware of their surroundings, never talk to strangers, cross at crosswalks and to be diligent when listening to music, talking on your phone or sending text messages while walking,” he continued.
For additional safety tips for parents and children of all ages, Sheriff Zaruba would like to invite the community to his annual Safety Saturday Fair that will be held Saturday, September 28thfrom 10 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the DuPage County Fairgrounds on Manchester Road in Wheaton. Sheriff Zaruba organized the event in 1997 in an effort to heighten public awareness about safety and promote positive interaction between emergency services organizations and DuPage County residents. Most exhibits are designed to teach families about safety and crime prevention.
