Sheriff Reminds Residents to Take Precautions

Sheriff John Zaruba wants to remind residents to take precaution to ensure their health, safety and well-being during the extremely cold temperatures moving into the area on Sunday January 5th through Tuesday January 7th.

To keep you and your loved ones safe, it is recommended that you stay indoors whenever possible. If you do have to go out in the extreme cold, dress in loose layers, keep skin covered and use a scarf to cover your mouth. Also be cautious while traveling, make sure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel, bring a cell phone and have a blanket in your vehicle in case it is needed.

“As winter temperatures in the Chicago area are dropping to dangerous levels, I ask residents to check on seniors, those with medical conditions and those with special needs because they can be especially vulnerable to frostbite, hypothermia or even death if their homes are not properly heated,” Sheriff Zaruba said. “Remember to check on neighbors and loved ones to make sure they stay safe during the extreme weather.”
