Sheriff Zaruba Requests A “Slow Down”
With summer in full swing, residents are seeing more signs popping up around the county reminding motorists to “Protect our children - SLOW DOWN,”. Sheriff John Zaruba wants to remind drivers to slow down and be vigilant for children playing around cars and in or near the streets.
Sheriff Zaruba’s “Slow Down” traffic campaign aims to remind drivers that children are out playing and drivers need to take responsibility for the safety of children playing. It has been our experience that when drivers are reminded with “speed trailers” and “visual signage” they will self regulate themselves and become aware of their responsibility to be a safe driver.
“The Slow Down campaign is an effective way to get this message across to both drivers and parents, with a goal of also teaching the children how to stay safe around roads,” Sheriff Zaruba stated. “This program is necessary to ensure children can play or ride a bike in their neighborhoods without their lives being endangered. I urge drivers to slow down and be vigilant around schools, parks and homes," he continued. “Give our children a “Brake.”
