Sheriff Successfully Uses Narcan to Reverse Heroin Overdose
Sheriff John Zaruba announced today that the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office saved a life of a resident that was overdosing on Heroin last night.
Sheriff Deputies responded to a sick person call in unincorporated Villa Park at approximately 9:30 last night. When the deputy arrived, she recognized the signs that the sick person was overdosing on Heroin. The Sheriff’s Deputy immediately administered her issued Narcan to the male who became immediately responsive to the Narcan. The 21 year old victim was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.
The DuPage Narcan Program (DNP), was initiated by the members of the DuPage County Chiefs’ of Police Association. Sheriff Zaruba, along with the other Executive Board members worked together with the DuPage County Health Department. Sheriff Deputies are equipped with the prescription drug Narcan, a heroin/opiate antagonist which blocks opiates from the opioid receptors in the brain which can reverse an overdose, saving the lives of those who would perish.
