Roselle Woman Charged with Hate Crime

Sheriff John Zaruba announced the arrest of a Roselle woman who was charged with Hate Crime and Aggravated Assault.

Karen Komar (dob 8/31/65) of the 25w500 block of Webster, Roselle has been charged with 3 counts of Hate Crime which is a class 4 felony and 3 counts of Aggravated Assault which is a class A Misdemeanor.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of suspicious people at approximately 8:15 pm last night on Webster Ave in unincorporated Roselle. It is alleged that 3 juveniles were walking down the roadway when they were confronted by a male subject who was photographing them and accusing them of criminal activity. During this confrontation, Komar came out of her residence, displayed a rifle and screamed racial slurs towards the juveniles. Subsequent investigation revealed that the rifle was a pellet gun.

“We will not tolerate this type of criminal activity, it is unacceptable,” said Sheriff Zaruba. “We would like to thank the juveniles for coming forward and reporting this incident,” he continued.

Komar is currently being held in the DuPage County Jail and will be in bond court this morning at 8:00am.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reminds readers that any charges indicated in this document are merely accusations, and the listed defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
