SPEAR (Sexual Predator Enforcement and Registration)
The SPEAR unit was created in 2005. It is a multi-jurisdictional countywide team coordinated by the Sheriff's Office, to take a proactive approach to ensure that known sexual offenders comply with the requirements of the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
The team is made up of investigators from local, county and state law enforcement agencies who meet monthly to conduct compliance checks on sex offenders residing in the county, conduct follow up investigations and secure criminal charges as warranted.
During its first six months of operation the SPEAR Unit conducted more than 550 compliance checks on registered sexual offenders and made 6 felony arrests.
